Gold Panner Campground is steeped in history. The first pioneers settled on the banks of Cherry Creek (now known as Monashee Creek), in the early 1860s. In 1865 gold and silver quartz were discovered on the creek. From 1863 to 1930 numerous mining companies operated in the area. Over $112,000,000 (inflated to today’s prices) in gold was mined from Cherry Creek. The largest nugget found was 8.5 ounces!
Below is a selection of articles and treasures describing the local history and events. If you are interested in learning more we invite you to visit the Cherryville & Area Historical Society.
